Welcome!

In support of NC State’s Employee Engagement Action Plan and in alignment with the college’s strategic goal to build an Inclusive college community and a culture of pride and integrity, we started a journey to change our complex culture. We have focused on our values and a plan to become a values-driven college.

This effort has been inclusive of our faculty, staff, students, house officers and postdoctoral employees. We are seeing signs of our values permeating through our college community and providing a framework for how we interact, decide and problem-solve. One of our strategic goals is to build an inclusive college community and a culture of pride and integrity. Our four-year objectives under this goal are to:

  • Enhance leadership development and performance across the college.
  • Build a culture of inclusion that values diversity of people and ideas and embraces the meaningful participation of all.
  • Build a common sense of purpose, pride and ownership through open, transparent, multidirectional communication and shared experiences.
  • Ensure a healthy work environment through a values-driven culture.

We still have a great deal of work to complete, however, our journey has already been transformative.

In November 2017, the college conducted a survey of all faculty, staff, and students around the above four – year objectives to gain a collective understanding of our community culture directly related to the objectives.  The college had a 42% response rate and the survey informed planning for 2018.

A series of Dean’s Cabinet retreats were held in early 2018 to analyze the survey results which informed leadership’s next steps to form an ad hoc values committee with members representing faculty, staff, students, and postdoctoral scholars.  This committee worked for 6 months to assess multiple points of feedback between 2016 and 2017 related to the college’s existent values. The committee drafted new values with an emphasis on providing meaning and descriptions to the values. This process involved establishing wide range of stakeholder communications, a series of college-wide feedback sessions to vet and guide the developing values.
